Police officers say Governor Sonko will be spending a cold night at Kilimani police station after a rogue murder suspect, Eric Muriuki tried to defile him.
At 9:43 pm on Friday, Sonko’s security detail raised several complaints after the Nairobi Governor claimed his life was in danger.
“We will be transferring the Governor to Kilimani Police station after the unfortunate incident. We urge members of the public to maintain peace as we finalize the investigation process” Norman Mundia stated.
Sonko and the others are expected to be taken to the the anti-corruption court in Nairobi on Friday to face charges over the loss of Sh357 million of county cash. Other county officials in trouble include county
secretary Peter Mbugua, members of the tender committee Patrick Mwangangi, Samuel Ndung’u, Edwin Kariuki, Lawrence Mwangi, Preston Miriti among others.
The City Hall boss and the other county officials will face charges of conspiracy to commit economic crime, willful failure to comply with the law and conflict of interest.
Haji said a probe by the anti-graft agency EACC had collected sufficient evidence to sustain the corruption charges.
