Nominated MP Maina Kamanda on Friday castigated the former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu over what he termed as gullible ways of extorting public funds.
The former Starehe MP expressed his disgust for Waititu even going out on a limb to even embarrass him in public claiming that during the 2017 elections, the former governor did not have enough money to fund his gubernatorial campaign.
“huyo mwanume wenu… alikuwa wakati wa campaign anakuja kuniomba millioni moja anirudishie… juzi amenunua manyumba tano Nairobi, ingine Runda…,(that man [Waititu]…during campaigns he came to borrow me 1 million on promise he would return…No sooner than that, he acquired 5 houses in Nairobi and another in Runda) he said during the swearing-in ceremony of Kiambu Governor James Nyoro.
It is during this heated speech that Kieleweke Chairman, political faction allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta, decided to quote former President Mwai Kibaki to drive his point home.
“Even stealing needs intelligence. Ata wizi intaka bongo kidogo. huyu mwanaume ata bongo kidogo hakupata.” he said.
Kamanda also asked Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to follow Kiambu County’s example and impeach Governor Mike Sonko.
“Tunawaambia MCAs wa Nairobi waangalie vile MCAs wa Kiambu wamefanya…Waondoe huyo mwizi aende Nyumbani, waondoe huyo mwizi aende nyumbani ama arudi Shimo la tewa,( We are asking Nairobi MCAs to follow Kiambu county’s example, send the thief home or to Shimo La Tewa ),” Kamanda said.
He was making a reference to Governor Sonko who is accused of escaping from Shimo la Tewa Prison before serving his jail term in full.
He also alluded to Sonko’s ongoing graft cases in which the embattled governor is accused of economic crimes amounting to Ksh.357 million.
At the same time, he faulted party leaders for handing party tickets to candidates with contentious credentials.
